Why Choose Avondale?
Real World Teaching & Learning
Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional strategy that affords students the opportunity to gain knowledge, experience, and life skills by working to investigate and respond to engaging and real-world questions, problems, or challenges. PBL is the on-going act of learning about different subject areas simultaneously. Interactive lessons and activities allow students to collaborate and partake in self-assessments of their learning, demonstrating their learning throughout the unit, not just at the end of a unit. We're proud to feature Project Based Learning throughout the Avondale School District at all grade levels.
Design Thinking
Design Thinking is an approach to learning that uses specific techniques and mindsets to develop a student's creative confidence. Design Thinking is introduced to students using minds-on and hands-on "design challenges" organized around real-world problems. Working to identify these problems and generate solutions allows students to learn to frame their thinking around the mindsets of developing empathy, promoting a bias toward action, encouraging ideation, and working in a culture of thinking. Through the design thinking process, students learn to identify, address, and generate solutions to challenges they face in their everyday life, and see the value of successfully implementing these changes to impact their world.
Safe Learning Environment
We are committed to providing a safe learning environment for all of our students. This is achieved through strict security measures, proper building security, and our community of caring staff and parents that are dedicated to the safety of our students.
Student Support Services
Avondale School District provides a variety of support services to help students grow and thrive, including after-school homework clubs, ESL tutoring, Bridge Buddy Peer Mentoring Program, and more. Our student support services also include counseling, special education, and occupational and physical therapy.
Comprehensive Curriculum
Our academic curriculum is comprehensive, including Literature, Sciences, Mathematics, Business & Tech, Social Sciences, Physical Education, Performing & Applied Arts, and more. We pride ourselves on competitive academics, with the opportunity for students to find their niche.
Variety of Educational Options
In addition to our comprehensive curriculum, Avondale School District offers students the opportunity to get involved in a variety of activities that enhance their educational experience, including athletics, performing arts, clubs, and more. We also offer alternative schooling options outside of our traditional elementary, middle, and high schools!
Student Ownership of Learning
Avondale utilizes Project Based Learning and Design Thinking methodologies to allow students to become champions of their own learning. These powerful opportunities take students beyond the textbook, and help them develop critical thinking, problem solving, cooperative learning, and self-assessment skills that will serve them well into the future. Our goal is to help build a foundation for success, upon which each student can build their road to the future.
Positive Behavior
Developing responsible behavior in our students at a young age is the first step in helping them grow into responsible adults. We take this task seriously and solicit the support of parents on this important mission. A Student Behavior Contract is sent to all parents at the beginning of each school year and we encourage parents to review it with their children regularly and remind them that they are responsible for their behavior both in and out of school.
