Avondale GATE history teacher, Zachary Kaczanowski was recently selected as the Michigan representative for the Medal of Honor Legacy: The War on Terror program—a nationally recognized professional learning experience that brings together educators from across the country to explore history, civic values, and character education.

Avondale High School is proud to celebrate seniors Brandon Chan, Benjamin Decoster, and Ajitesh Ravula for earning national recognition as Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. This distinction places them among the top 50,000 students in the nation who demonstrated exceptional academic ability on the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Avondale School District is proud to announce that Avondale Unified Sports has been recognized by the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® National Recognition Program as a Unified Champion School—one of only seven public schools in Michigan to receive this honor in 2025, and just two schools in Oakland County.

Avondale School District is celebrating substantial gains in both student growth and proficiency, as confirmed by the 2024–2025 state testing results. Out of 28 school districts in Oakland County, Avondale demonstrated measurable academic growth across multiple grade levels and subjects, according to 2024–2025 statewide MSTEP and state testing data. Notably, Avondale was one of only 10 districts in the county to show growth in 11th grade science, and the only district in the county to be in the top 5 for 5th grade growth in all four subject areas.
